If you fancy a go at National One rugby, contact Phil Maynard, director of rugby down at Pertemps Bees, whose door is always open. Maynard's team have no match next weekend so he has given everyone a week off with no training and does not want to see the players again until a week tonight.

He said: "I want them to come back relaxed and prepared to take up the challenge of 15 more points before then end of the season."

But Maynard is now on the look-out for new recruits.

He said: "There is a great opportunity for local lads in local teams to come and have a go in this division. The doors are open for anyone who wants to have a go."

The need for new faces was highlighted as Rotherham inflicted a 35-6 defeat on the Bees at Sharmans Cross Road on Saturday.

Maynard said: "It was a disgraceful second-half performance that let us down badly. You can't cater for that."

The Rotherham side on display was a long way from the team relegated from the Premiership last season. The budget had been slashed and 13 players had gone on their way.

Maynard said: "We could have won that game of that there is no doubt. But it is exciting times now." The current Bees squad are already playing for contracts next year and Saturday's performance has put question marks against one or two more names in the mind of Maynard, who is engulfed in the the worst losing sequence he has ever experienced.

He said: "Sleeping does not become any easier. We just have to reorganise and go again."

Maynard's team are showing relegation form at the moment but their strong start to the season helped amass enough points for safety.

But the club now has to look again at what it wants to be.

"The aspirations were the Premiership and we need to do a goal-setting exercise," said Maynard.

"It needs a complete change of mind-set. We have to become more realistic.

"We are a first division side for the forseeable future. We have to rebuild the side for what we are about now.

"We need to try to bring the age of the team down a bit alongside some experience.

"We are a bottom half to middle first division side and I have just got toget on with it."
