Carnegie Challenge Cup Quater Final - Preview

ST. HELENS v
WARRINGTON WOLVES
Knowsley Road, St. Helens
Saturday 9th June 2007, 12:15
Warrington Wolves will be hoping to produce one of the clubs best ever results on Saturday with a victory over holders St. Helens in the Quater Final stage of the Carnegie Challenge Cup. Wolves have not tasted victory over the Saints in a league encounter since 2001 and you have to go back to 1968 fot the last time a Warrington team knocked out the men from Knowsley Road in the Challenge Cup.
Warrington are once again depleted with former Saints stars Martin Gleeson and Vinne Anderson both expected to miss the cup clash following injuries in the league encounter with the Saints less then two weeks ago. St. Helens are expected to recall Roby, Wellens, Gidley, Wilkin and Fa'asavalu who all sat out the Saints last match against Salford which the Saints came from behind to win 27-26.
Warrington Wolves have not won at Knowsley Road since 1994 when the club ran out 21-11 victors in the old First Division. Since then Warrington have gone on to record some of the clubs heaviest ever league defeats to the rivals including an 80-0 Semi-Final defeat in the old Regal Trophy and a 72-2 league defeat back in 2001.
Victory on Saturday for the Wolves will put them a step closer to a place at the New Wembley in the Final and with the knowledge that the holders would be out.
Warrington Wolves supporters are expected to travel to St. Helens in huge numbers inorder to try and guide the Wolves through to the Semi Finals for the first time since 2004. The match is also being shown LIVE on BBC One for any supporters unable to make the early kick off.
