CATALANS DRAGONS v WARRINGTON WOLVES
Stade Aime Giral, 66000 Perpignan, France
Saturday 30th June 2007, 19:30
Warrington Wolves once again make the trip to the south of France to face 10th placed Catalans Dragons for the second time this season. The sides met back in April when the Wolves were going through an injury crisis and the Catalans were too strong for the depleted Wolves running out 27-16 victors. However this time around Warrington are likely to be near full strength and need to pick up both the league points if they are to have any real chance of mounting a late push for the top 6.
Both teams go into the match on the back of a week off following the Frontline Test fixture between Great Britain and France, with the Lions producing a strong display to regitster a 42-14victory in Leeds. Catalans are on a 3 match losing run and will be hoping to put that to an end on Saturday. The last victory in the league for the Dragons was a 66-6 mauling of struggling Salford which then led to the departure of Reds coach Karl Harrison. Warrington seem to have turned the corner following improved performances in the defeats to Leeds and St. Helens followed by a comfortable 31-12 home defeat of Wakefield.
Consistancy is what is needed from the Wolves with crucial matches coming up against Huddersfield (A), Salford (H), Hull KR (A) and Wigan (H). Victories in all those matches would see the Wolves well in the hunt for a top 6 finish and hitting form at the right time in the season.
For the trip to Catalans, Warrington were likely to welcome back Vinnie Anderson, Martin Gleeson and Stuart Reardon who all missed the last 3 fixtures due to injuries. However they have not been named in the 20 man squad. Chris Bridge is named in the Wolves 20 man squad and may be set for his first appearance since picking up an injury at the start of the season.
Around 1,500 Warrington supporters are expected to make the trip to south of France hoping to see the Wolves return to the north west of England with all the league points.
