Chiefs halt Quins winning streak with a well deserved victory.

What a difference a week makes!
Last week I reported on my lengthy journey to Kinston Park and a dissapointing outcome. Well it was back to Aviva Premiership action at Sandy Park just 6 days later and what a difference!
For one thing my journey was shorter and less arduous and I had more company. Mind you they're a noisy lot, especially in the East Terrace North! The weather was fine and dry with the sort of light breeze that Sandy Park is used to. Chiefs kickers are used to the breeze but it was clearly too much for Nick Evans to mange. Not that he was given many opportunities thanks to a well disciplined display from the Chiefs. Even though Quins made some great line breaks the Chiefs defence was able to mange them 'legally'.
This match was a big step forward for the Chiefs according to Rob Baxter as the players really backed themselves to attack the game and came out with a well deserved win. There have been several games this season where we hadn't quite managed this but to do it in such great style against Quins, who were on a prolonged winning streak was very satisfying.
It's diificult to single out players for particular praise as all performed to a very high level. What is more remarkable is there were only 4 of the 23 who weren't playing in the Championship last season. It was great to see Matt Jess get a start and Sireli Naqelevuki was a real handful with his runs from deep. Above all though Tommy Hayes has to take great credit for his leadership and decision making.
What a great game of rugby to watch and a tremendous springboard for the last few rounds.
The team and supporters will travel North to take on Newcastle Falcons on Friday with renewed vigour and confidence. I'm sorry I won't be making the trip and yes I would repeat it if I could but I'll be listening on line.

at looking at the quality of the backs that the quins have i can see why they turned us over at the stoop however in saying that all credit to our boys in shutting down there backs and dominating the game. and imho i cant stop smiling as we made another 4 points and increasing our chances of prem league survival
Congratulations to the Chiefs, you fully deserved the win yesterday.

Waiting for the highlights on prem tv but listening yesterday sounded like a cracker and gutted to miss it. Well done to the lads and the tribe came across loud and clear on the internet radio.
