Can you correctly predict Chiefs' results this season?

By Plympton Chief
August 30 2021

PRIZES, PRIZES, PRIZES, well, none actually but hopefully your interest has been piqued! I’m indebted to Thoddle on the Saints’ forum for allowing me to use his templates to bring a bit of competition to our forum.

Most if not all teams have gone about strengthening their line-ups and some will have gained confidence from the way they finished last season. Harlequins, I’m looking at you!

Overseas stars have been brought in but some significant “home” plyers are starting in new club colours, Cipriani being perhaps the most significant. Cips with Bath’s young and exciting backs should be worth watching.

Our old friends, Sarries, have lost a few and gained a few and will surely miss George Kruis. They will welcome back the loanees, Earle and Malins with the experience of playing for Bristol and Lozowski back from France.

Leicester will, I think, come on strong under Steve Borthwick and Worcester have done a lot of good recruitment. Northampton and Wasps can no longer flatter to deceive, surely. With the squad they each have must be there or there abouts come next June.

Bristol and Sale will provide the usual stern tests but I’m struggling to find something positive to say about Newcastle, Gloucester and London Irish. Hope that does not come home to bite me!

I have spoken to some good people at Saints where a prediction competition has been running for some time and they, especially Thoddle, have allowed me to use their template.

Using your “skill and judgement” how about predicting the score in each of Chiefs’ matches. Can’t be that difficult with Chiefs winning every game by a substantial margin!

Anyway, have a word with your contacts at Saints who I hope will tell you it is not habit forming nor addictive but worth a shot.

If you would like to join in please let me know asap. All Chiefs’ games will be included but there is no penalty if you miss a match.

The scoring system is as follows

2 for correct Chiefs prediction of Win, Lose or Draw.

2 for correct Chiefs score or 1 point if within 1 either way.

2 for correct Opposition score or 1 point if within 1 either way.

1 bonus point if both scores correct

  OR

1 bonus point if the points difference is correct.

Prediction cut off will be at Kick Off so make sure you have let me know in good time but should a match be cancelled then those predictions will be ignored.

Scores accumulate across the season

It’s just a bit of fun but fun is where it’s at!!

Thanks Mike for responding.
The only bit of information missing is me, Plympton Chief, as contact. I'll post the list of fixtures in the next couple of days and remind everyone around the Wednesday prior to each match.
EVERYONE is most welcome! The Saints predictions thread has over 40 contributors. I don't suppose we can do as well?

The rugby magazine fantasy game is also brilliant. In it there is the opportunity to say which team you support and I'm delighted to say those who say they support the chiefs are normally in the top one or two as compared to those supporting other clubs.

Juggling your squad with a limit from each club in a salary cap with player's wages dependent through the season on form and ;popularity with individual points for - tries, yards gained etc, and lost for missed tackles and cards it is a challenge. All the more so with players rest periods, fallow weeks this year, injuries and internationals and limited squad change per week. It keeps me thoroughly entertained to see how my picks are doing even if the Chief's are not playing. Al;l recommended to me by my grandson. You could also form a fantasy league team of players who play this other game!

Rob says the back five a bit scratchy in his pre-match you-tube talk. No Jacques Vermeulen and Jack Innard starts. No Richard Capststick who did well last season but it will be interesting to see Rus Tuima and hopefully Aaron Hinkley. Lots of subs on both sides so i imagine the game will be a bit rusty and stop start. Weather seems good. Absolutely nothing to base my prediction on but will go 34 23 to the Chiefs.

Predictions are going to be a real shot in the dark as nobody really knows who is on form and carrying any niggling injuries. Munster fans seem quite happy with the squad despite it missing Simon Zebo and the rest of their Lions.

So far the tally stands at 8 Chiefs' wins and one draw. The average score so far is 30 to 21, obviously in Chiefs' favour. Winning margins have ranged from 15 points down to 5 points.

Not quite right Mike. You got one point for being within one point of Munster's score.
Reminds me of the time a few seasons ago when we entertained Wuss and a friend and I predicted a "five pointer". We were right in as much as Chiefs scored five points in the match but lost it!!

Decided to log back in now the season is approaching and we can concentrate on Rugby, and i've got over my sulk at losing the final!

Can I be the first to predict this weekends result. I'm going for Tigers 24 Chiefs 17. I think we'll find this season a struggle, in relative terms. We will be missing too many players for too long this year to breeze into the top four, I still think we'll get there but may not get a home semi.

Ps. Thanks for taking up the moderation PC, a thankless task I'm sure!

Interesting bench selections. I think both McCauley and Tshiunza are out and out second rows. Lonsdale could drop back into the back row if necessary and Kirsten and Armand can both fit into the second row. Our line out must function better than last week!
No Stu Townsend as No 9 replacement. Is he injured? Lets hope SHC can produce some decent form.
I agree with Mike that it will be very close. Our experienced guys must step up. Chiefs 22 Tigers 20.
Mrs Pessimistic Chief is going for a loss 27-24.

Wasps away. Never an easy fixture! They have their injury worries but I still think, given the remaining players it will be a toughie.

It has been suggested that as this thread is becoming overlong we use the "Teams up" thread and put our predictions there. I think it makes good sense and so can we all please now use this new route for our wildly optimistic predictions.
Nobody got anywhere near the result today although Bold Eagle's 31 - 21 was close to the score but each team's roles were reversed!
Castle Grim next Friday. Oh good.
