There was a random comment on the Bath forum when the teams were announced last week saying that only Hodge would get into the Bath squad. These things are always down to personal opinion of course but I wonder how many of our squad would get into the Toulouse squad this week?
Well with that squad we're going down swining at least but I still think it's mission impossible.

Another pessimistic forecast like last week and praying to be horribly wrong again. They have a stellar half back pairing and a brutal pack with Jack Willis a premium jackaller. They thrashed Harlequins By 30 points playing away. I will be very happy if the difference is a couple of scores only. Toulouse 48 Chiefs 17. Will be a high scoring game. Please no injuries next week is the third huge match in a row.

Playing away from home and hoping the penalty count is controlled. Looking for some positives and no cards. Toulouse 43 Chiefs 25. Don't like the look of that weather forecast. Need some wind and rain!
I donât give us a chance to be honest but you never know. However Baxter ha picked a side to give it a go. Think back to preseason when the pundits gave us no chance and predicted a ninth place finish. Well we are in the last eight on Sunday and with four games to go in the Premiership we could be anywhere fro second to eighth. Much has been learnt by Baxter Babes and now much will be expected and hopefully be delivered over the next few years.

Their 9 and 10 will dictate the game , a good day out for the supporters and i believe deep down its a ma mouth task but look at Atlanta in the football last night anything is possible.
If we could come away with a win, it will be fantastic.

Went out to Toulouse when Bath played in the rounds and although we lost, mainly due to being worn out in the last 12 minutes when they scored 14, we were very much in the game.
You have to stop their pack. Maefano is an absolutely monster, but get some quick ball and play your usual keep ball, all supporting running game, you will score and can win. Stopping their quick ball at breakdowns is essential and obviously watching Dupont,
Think Feyi- Waboso will cause problems if he gets the ball and their cover defence is not the best. Also, Ramos is not starting who did the damage against us.
Tough ask, but not impossible. We did well there and you beat us, so it is on. Am expecting a very tight game, especially if you score early and frustrate them.

We will have to keep the ball because we are not very good at getting it back. Probably a similar game to last years semi-final. But good team building, hope Hodge can play with a smile on his face again.

Pessimism here again I'm afraid! That's one strong team we're facing, add that to our poor away form and things don't look good.

It's away against an all international standard team. We will have our moments with the players we've put out however.

I hope the result doesn't put more pressure on the lads but an improbable victory would set up an all Prem Semi which would probably be played at Ashton Gate or Swindon Town, both of which have been candidates in the past.
I would certainly fancy our chances more agianst Quins than if Bordeaux had won and we had faced a trip to Marseilles or somewhere similar if we got through.

One thing worth mentioning is that there are at least 2 English sides in the S/Fs of the European Cup. Definitely only 1 Irish and 0 or 1 French side. All of this despite the fact that France and Ireland have salary caps around twice what we have in the Prem. Despite all of the problems in the Prem we are obviously doing something right on the pitch.

I suppose it's worth mentioning too that the two teams that have got through so far play quite a different game to most of the Prem.
They are packed full of quick backs who love playing heads up counter attack rugby.
Saints definitely had an easier ride with the Bulls resting 11 of their best players. Makes a mockery of the competition so I for one would be glad to see the back of the SA teams if they don't or are not able to take it seriously.

I think we are more likely to win a low scoring game, 14 to 12 maybe. But we need to get their big men off their feet as much has we can, get them lifting 20 stone off the turf 30 times with pick and goes can be tiring, and lots of chop tackling from us, we must have less players off their feet then them at all times.

The travel issues not only affected the Saints game but also the Dublin game. La Rochelle looked understandably leggy.. not sure why we had to have the quarters this week.
I think mommentum's right, we're more likely to scrape a low-scoring game. Unfortunately, they don't often score few points at home, especially outside the international windows. they're putting out a fully-stacked side so we're in for a hard time. However, we have beaten them before, hopefully they'll be over-confident and our boys can go out and have some fun.

So, the above predictions suggest either a narrow Chiefs win, or a big loss, not much in-between. I tend to agree with both those opinions, which makes a prediction that can only be lead by the heart ST 21 : Chiefs 22 ... with Henry slotting a penalty on 80 mins!

Five things.
1. You don't know what salaries the four provinces pay - their accounts are never published.
2. We do however know from simple maths that the four provinces' have very different salary bills.
3. Leinster have to have a huge squad because they happen to have 19 players away on Ireland camps or recovering when URC matches are played.
4. Leinster have to pay higher salaries to keep their reserves in Leinster because several Prem clubs introduced unsustainable wage inflation a few years ago.
5. As you know, the Prem salary cap is not what your total salary bill !

Or the EPRC have made a mockery of the European competition by - for example - scheduling two knockout rounds over back-to-back weekends.
Many people reckon it's fantastic to have the South Africans in the tournament - for financial and rugby reasons. I'd agree but I'd also agree that the downsides need to be ironed out quickly before others embrace those teams.

Sadly the only chance Exeter had today was if Toulouse lost half a dozen of their best players to injury throughout the game. And even then.
Baxter hides behind the "young team" excuse over and over (and over) again. Maybe manage your team better so that you're not forced into losing a lot of underpaid players all at once so that you have to then field such an inexperienced side.

With no Prem games in the six nations they may have struggled to get all the games in.

well Northshark maybe you should look at your own club and the salary cap cant tell me your club stick to it. We are doing ok with the youngsters and to be honest we will be in a better position in the coming years without a sugar daddy and a average crowd of 4000

Seems you are a Tigers fan NS, tho I note that youâve posted a lot on Sharks forum too.
I understand your frustration. Had there been relegation the year Tigers were the whipping boys you would have blooded your next generation in Championship. Fair play tho it has taken a while but the Stewards, Martins, JVPâs, Chessum , Kellyâs et al have eventually come thru.
Weâre just excited down here that our new generation, or as you put it, âinexperienced sideâ, has not only emerged much quicker than anyone couldâve expected, but in our âfirstâ season of evolution, Chiefs have made quarters in Champions Cup and still hopeful of Premiership honours.

As you say a great experience for the team. I was happy to see we'd learned to tag the points in a knockout game and the players all kept playing.
Amongst what I thought were quite a few positives amongst the eventual carnage was that injury wise we seem to come thru relatively unscathed? Hope RV passes his return to play protocol this week. Having said that he surely needs a week off anyway
As Rob often says itâs an 80m game and we gave an awful lot in the first 40m and eventually their power and skill came through as we started to drop of tackles and cough up possession and penalties. Losing Vincent to a foul play penalty was disappointing as he was once again having a stormer so much pace and energy.
A real lesson in offloading into space where we so often run into contact, something we must address if we want to compete at the top. They are a great side and man for man were better in nearly every position so the result was not surprising. Letâs not forget 6 of our players could ( but wonât) be playing in the university final on Wednesday!
Set piece was good but in open play their vision to see opportunities was special and we paid a heavy price for slipping or missing first up tackles.
Fabulous try from Roots and great to see Wimbush on the scoresheet, he looks a fantastic prospect.

Well, that was way better than I expected for the first 50 minutes or so and then we got reminded whose house we were in. I'll live with it though, wasn't really sure what to expect from this tournament and we made the quarters.

A game of two halves. Lots of positives in the first half. Destroyed physically and I expect psychologically in the second. Living the dream in the first and a brutal destruction of that dream in 20 minutes in the second. Toulouse were brilliant but the Chiefs gave out so much in the first half their line speed disappeared in the second and critically fell off a lot of first time tackles. Willis and Dupont brilliance showed more as the game went on. Delighted we took our pens as it kept us in the first half. Henry's kicking good but the blitz defence does not work when there are huge doglegs and the tackles are not made. Not sure whether that is/was just fatigue, a collective fault or Sladey is the chief problem. I thought the scrum and line-out held up pretty well.. A very tough ask against Bath now. Will be battered and bruised in every sense. A six day turnaround. Yenz likely to be cited. We have achieved a lot this season I think but this coming Saturday will be a realistic brutal defining test of just how far we have come or whether the early season flattered to deceive. No disgrace to be blitzed by Toulouse but can we regroup and reset for Bath?

We had a great lesson, and the boys have been there done that now so will have a positive effect, nobody let the side down imho.
The fact that we were playing the best side in Europe, a side who dismantled equally big spending Racing who didn't have to travel to far speaks volumes for our young guns.
It wasn't that long ago our previous young guns were being humbled by the French at home, didn't hurt the guys then, just made them stronger as it will the boys now 6 odd years later.
Also seeing more youth appearing on the field and make their mark makes it so exciting next season glad I have my ST sorted.

Perhaps the video is fake, would be very odd for Jack to do anything deliberate
Did the French player complain at the time? If you've had somebody stick their finger in your eye you are going to feel it and flag it up to the Ref/Touch Judges surely.
The video is extremely selective, ie it only shows an initial contact and then stops. If there was any evidence of gouging (which is not the same thing as an accidental contact ) then I'd imagine that the OP would have milked it for all it was worth. The abrupt end of the vid suggests that it is an attempt to stir things rather than a genuine example of a particularly unpleasant act of foul play, which is not something for which Jack has been noted in over 250 games for the club.

Back in 2016 6N Tomas Francis was given an 8 week ban for 'gouging' Dank Hole. Apparently the contact with the 'eye area' was 1/3 of a second.

Re Ashtons there is I believe no offence of "gouging" as 1876-Fez says it is "contact in, or around, the eye area"

Let's wait and see what happens. Those sorts of clips can be very miss-leading. However, if he's put his fingers adjacent to a players eyes with any sort of danger he should get punished.

Glos also have their semi-final 6 days after they play us. I would be really surprised if they didn't rest some of their players for the Benetton game.

They are notoriously slow at posting this sort of thing but there is also nothing on the Toulouse website so they probably havenât raised the issue.

b) For such matches, clubs will not have the power to cite a player but may refer incidents to the Citing Commissioner within 26 hours of the start of the match.

The boys should be proud but the management should be worried. Yes we lost the kicking game but the big difference is how easy Toulousain keep the ball alive, we were chasing ghosts, so many times so many of our players are not being effective in defence, like headless chickens tackling long after the ball as gone. Slade, Devoto and Woodburn are not young or a new partnership, and this game is not a one off. We have the players but if we keep coaching to defend this way we will not make the best of them.
Wimbush is an interesting play, he carried well when he came on, but he is like a prop trying to defend, he cant move sideways or turn so can not be a future 13
