Some fascinating selections in those 2 teams.

Obviously Pirates are seen as the greater threat. Interesting that Ben Coen is selected. Has he been offered a contract does anyone know?

The birth of the Rigg/Wimbush axis. A lot of power and pace between them. Looking forward to seeing it live!

Even if it is don't forget that it's a bank holiday weekend and the traffic around Junction 30 will be horrendous...

A friend of ours is a regular volunteer for the D&S car park and has been contacted to see if she’s available on 14th Sept, so presumably the answer to your question is yes.

They obviously missed the squad photo day!

Vintcent was training on Wednesday at the ST open day, and looked very fit.
Christ was on the sidelines and not involved, as was Daf who had obvious dressing on his shoulder.
Stuart T was also sat on the sidelines.
IFW & Ethan fully involved in the training too.

At the moment, I think I'm most looking forward to watching how Paul Brown-Bampoe performs.

Pirates squad is

Cornish Pirates: 15 Will Trewin 14 Robin Wedlake 13 Charlie McCaig 12 Joe Elderkin 11 Arthur Relton 10 Bruce Houston 9 Cam Jones; 1 Billy Young 2 Morgan Nelson 3 Jay Tyack 4 Charlie ‘Buster’ Rice 5 Hugh Bokenham 6 Alex Everett 7 Will Gibson 8 John Stevens (captain).

Replacements (shirt numbers TBC on the day): Sol Moody, Harry Hocking, James French, Oisin Michel, Ollie Andrews, Milo Hallam, Josh King, Matt Cannon, Dan Hiscocks, Will Rigelsford (guest player), Iwan Jenkins, Matt McNab, Harry Yates, Tom Georgiou, Iwan Price-Thomas.

Interestingly with some (lesser) Chiefs players amongst them - Moody, Hocking, Jenkins, Hallam (still at Uni?) - and two ex-Chiefs (Elderkin, Relton), but perhaps more significantly, as he is a starter, will be McCaig. Yet another who has real potential to make the leap like the other current Uni backs have done.

What an excellent afternoon of rugby, a good crowd both refs let the games flow and I’m sure all the teams got a lot out of the run out. For us a lot of the academy boys getting their first taste of men’s rugby and the more experienced some competitive rugby again.
The positives - our front row is going to be strong this year we have real dept in the prop and hooker position. The backs look dangerous with quick ball and Brown could be a real find. I thought Hawkins was outstanding in the first match, I hope he can stay fit as he has massive potential. No significant injuries. Cairns very sharp at the base of the scrum, I think he will improve this season after his breakthrough year to be the real deal.

Negatives - line out not strong and clearly missing a really big lock, something which Baxter is addressing fingers crossed.
The second half of the pirates game we defaulted to the one up runners instead of offloading into space and struggled because of it, I’m sure this will be picked up. Today’s rugby is playing at pace using the space not bash bash.

More will be learned from the next friendly which will be a step up in quality of opposition but a great start to the season.

Thoroughly entertaining day of rugby, some impressive performances and some with huge potential. One negative for me was the quality of the P A system, we really need something better.

Well, I was happy with what I saw. Strong and he showed great pace for that first of his tries down the wing.

A fabulous day out watching our boys dust off those pre-season, marine-buoyed exercise sessions with a bit of Baxball!

Top performers of the day:
Paul Brown
Josh Hodge
Dan Frost

And Jonah Holmes from London Scottish, who I think will be a shrewd signing for them this season. I was a big fan of him during his time at Leicester. Lovely bloke to chat with!
