Wyatt 11 and Hammersley 13? Surely that'd be better switched around, put the more creative player where he can be effective and let Hammersley use his pace.

We should win this one, but it may be closer than we'd like.

There are at least 8 chiefs or ex chiefs in that Pirates team. Its almost like a training run out.

I like our selection, which stays in the spirit of the competition despite so many first team names...😄

This competition comes at the perfect time imo. Time to take the shackles off, play with some confidence and nothing really to lose. It could define what happens later in the season.

Simply a must win game. Great to see Wyatt back, wasted on the wing, full back or centre for me. Treatment of Hawkins bizarre to say the least, but not surprised given recent selections by coaches.
We will need to score a few tries as our back line looks very weak defensively without Skinner starting.

I'd presume that Baxter and co. are selecting a near identical Premiership 23 in the hopes that they can learn how to win again.

In which case, they have my full support and understanding. A series of wins, despite being against supposedly weaker opposition, could be just what this team needs.

I am sure you are correct Stan; that is what the coaches are aiming for . I think the huge downside is the lack of any gametime to show what any of the other younger members of the squad can do. If we win I am not sure we will learn much - a loss means wasted opportunities for others. Its almost as if the coaches still think this is the best team they can find in our huge squad despite deteriorating performances and not winning a game all season. There is no transitioning in this squad.

That is the other side of the coin, indeed. I'm surprised to see Jimmy Roots in there, to be honest.

Perhaps Hartpury at home will be a better opportunity for our peripheral squad members to earn some time in the saddle.

I'm standing by my prediction that we'll have a terrific Prem Cup campaign, and maybe even win it despite our torrid domestic form - very much like Gloucester last season!

Brilliant to see Wyatt back, but why on the wing ??????????
Do the coaches not see what everyone else sees, he is probably the most talented playmaker we have at the club, along with Slade.
Never going to happen because of Slade's England contract, but I would play Slade at 10 and Wyatt at 13.

Agree. We've missed Pearson in the pack this season more than most realise. Before Wyatt was injured about a year ago, he was leading the Prem for a number of statistics including defenders beaten. Really pleased to see them both back in the squad.

Its hardly surprising that club rugby struggles to attract a new audience when even those who are already interested can't follow the sport.

Apparently the Pirates were told by the RFU that they weren't allowed to, at least from what I saw on Twitter posted by Tribe Talking. Or it could be due to TNT choosing what they want to broadcast.

Some random message board dweller like you would be far better at running the game.

I think keeping TNT happy and getting them to continue to invest in the game, is far more important to the future of the sport than if a Pirates YouTube stream exists or not.

Technically speaking, it's more important that fans are kept happy because we vote with our wallets. All we have to do is cancel our subscriptions and suddenly TNT will think twice about owning the broadcasting rights.

Firstly, it was PRL that negotiated the TV deal with TNT, and it is pretty widely acknowledged that the negotiations have been poorly managed for many years now.

Secondly whilst a deal that allows TNT to choose which Premiership Cup matches it wants to televise may be fine, a deal which prohibits clubs from streaming the other matches clearly isn't.

Thirdly, it has been reported that the RFU overruled Pirates streaming the match. I have no idea whether that is true, but if so, it contradicts the RFUs own mission statement and core values.

Finally if you really believe that the rugby authorities are managing the sport well in England then your opinion is probably a lot more random than mine.

I have no idea what satisfaction you get from trolling these boards but it certainly at odds with the spirit and values of the game as I have enjoyed them as a player, spectator and supporter for over fifty years. Which makes me think that you can't ever have played, you don't actually love the sport and certainly don't understand it.

Firstly, who exactly has acknowledged that PRL have been so poor at negotiating TV deals?

Secondly, if TNT have paid for the broadcasting rights then absolutely they are entitled to prevent anyone else from streaming games. Are you really suggesting that anyone should be allowed to broadcast any sport regardless of who legally owns the rights to do so?

Thirdly, of course the RFU would have advised that because they know it would contravene TNT's contract so they would be obligated to protect Pirates from legal action.

BB - If TNT have no intent in broadcasting a specific game, then in the interest of promoting the sport, other options should be available to clubs. I don't think anybody is suggesting they should be able to duplicate what's already being provided by the contracted partner.
If this is not an option, then that would suggest the negotiation of the contract was not as thorough as it should have been.

Seriously? Who has ever negotiated a contract which allows anyone to provide competing coverage of a different game in the same competition to the one being broadcast by the company paying for that right?

Whilst I'm inclined to agree with you BB, I thought the choice of the match TNT chose to show last night was odd. If you subscribe to TNT you can watch Tigers v Saints a couple of times a season; it would have been nice of TNT to show teams who aren't on there every week. I'm not suggesting it had to be Chiefs but there were two other games on last night that involved Championship sides. It may be that the negotiations didn't ensure they got a cut of the TV money (which, as PRL were involved, it's quite likely they don't), so there's no incentive to show the Championship sides.

Yes - YouTube would only attract the die hard supporter who probably wouldn't be interested in the televised option anyway.

In Rob we trust.
By the way - cream on first. There's nothing to debate.

Don’t forget that Penzance is a long way to haul all the requisite broadcasting kit, so maybe showing a match closer to home was the easy option for TNT!

It does seem strange but maybe, and I'm guessing, the championship teams don't want their home games televised to maximise gate receipts.

Quite possibly with Crew & Equipment off to Twickenham today.

Finally get a Championship side televised next weekend but clashes with Ireland v New Zealand!
