Wasps travel to Newcastle on Friday night aiming to maintain their impetus at the sharp end of the Aviva Premiership table.

Bolstered by Sunday’s 37-6 rout of Harlequins, Wasps are looking for the win that, temporarily at least, would see them leapfrog Saracens into third spot.

Wasps face crucial back-to-back home games against Gloucester and Saracens in the first week of March but they can afford no slip-ups at Kingston Park against a Falcons side who have won only four of their 14 league games this season.

Flanker Thomas Young, who made his first Championship start of the season against Quins, warned: “It's always tough to go up to Newcastle on a Friday night but it’s a game we have to win if we want to realise our aspirations of being at the top end of the league.

“Momentum is a big thing and we want to keep that going – we have to kick on and back up that performance against Harlequins.

"At the start of the season we had a clear aim of making the top six, with anything else being a bonus. We are sitting in fourth at the moment and, looking at the games coming up, we want to stay there.
