Wasps boss Dai Young says his are ready to upset their new neighbours for the bragging rights in Saturday’s turf war at a sold-out Ricoh Arena.

This is the first M69 derby between these arch-rivals and it could prove to be a season-defining clash with a Premiership semi-final spot at stake.

But there is more than that up for grabs in Coventry, where a battle for the hearts and minds of Midlands rugby fan is being waged.

Scepticism greeted Wasps’ move from Wycombe five months ago.

Many said it sounded the death knell for the two-time European champions. Instead, Wasps have gone from averaging 5,500 at Adams Park to 19,000 at the Ricoh, where a capacity 32,600 will watch Saturday’s game.

Not a bad way to end a week in which Wasps have reached the £35million target they set for a bond issue to pay off other debts and generate cash to invest in growing the business.
