Joe Simpson will miss Wasps’ final Aviva Premiership fixture at London Irish after picking up a knee injury during Saturday’s 26-21 defeat at home to Leicester.

The club has confirmed that the scrum-half – the Premiership’s player-of-the-month for April – sustained a grade two medial collateral ligament strain that will force him to go through rest and rehabilitation for six to eight weeks.

Wasps’ medical staff, however, are confident he will make a full recovery in time to participate in the club’s pre-season programme and England’s World Cup preparations if he is called up by Stuart Lancaster.
