By Beef & Maverick
August 14 2002
Well we laid down the challenge on the message board and Gordon Terrace stalwarts Beef and Maverick duly came up with the goods in their Saintly reworking of the Don McClean classic American Pie.
With apologies to Don McClean (but absolutely none to Madonna).
SAINTS TILL I DIE
A long long time ago
I can still remember when the Gordon was a pile
And Keith knew that if he took the chance
That he could make those people dance
And they would be happy and would smile
So old foundations they did shiver
And Uncle Keith, he did deliver
Good news on the doorstep
So I could stand on my new step
I can't remember if I cried
When I read about the new West Side
But something touched me deep inside
And I wear the shirt with pride!
{Refrain}
So Cry! Cry! I'm Saints 'til I die
Every home game up to FG
Where the expectation is high
And the boys in the bar, drinking the Guinness tap dry
Singing, I'll be a Saint 'til I die
I'll be a Saint 'til I die
We know that the game is tough
But do you have faith in the word of Smudge
Yes, the supporters tell us so
Do you believe in the ruck and maul
Will rugby save your mortal soul
And can someone teach me how to drink real slow?
Well we know that we're in love with them
From Edgar Mobbs to the Mighty Tim
They all wore Saintly shoes
Man, I dig those side steps and moves
We remember the power of Super Buck
Barging through 'em like a pick-up truck
There's no such thing as luck
And I wear the shirt with pride!
The crowd were singing....
{refain...}
Now for two years the team has grown
After we made the Heineken our own
And again that's how it's gonna be
As Leicester crow about the things they've seen
With moves they've borrowed from a man named Dean
But a Bruce has come to you and me
Oh, and while LTA is looking down
Air Bruce will whip off his plaited crown
No courtroom will adjourn
No hairpiece will be returned
And Lander will have to leave the park
The forwards practice in the dark
To make surges up the park
And I wear the shirt with pride!
The crowd were singing.....
{refrain}
Helter Skelter in April swelter
The Falcons flew into their dugout shelter
Five tries down and falling fast
It landed foul on Squeaky's a*se
The Falcons tried a forward pass
With Rob Andrew on the sidelines quite downcast
Now the half-time was a sweet perfume
The Jimmies sang a marching tune
We all got up to dance
We hadn't been given a chance
But the payers controlled the entire field
Us terrace boys refused to yield
Do you recall what was revealed
The day the Falcons got fried
The crowd were singing....
{refrain}
Oh, here we are, all in one place
New season here, we're on the case
Now it's time to start again
So come on, Bruce be nimble, Ripol be quick
Our forward boys will give 'em stick
'cos quick ball is air Ben's only friend
And when we watch them out on Piggy's stage
Our hands may clentch in fists of rage
All saints fans I can tell
Are ready to shout and yell
And as the scoreboard climbs high in light
We'll be cheering with delight
As we watch the awesome Jimmies might
And I wear the shirt with pride!
The crowd were singing....
{refrain}
To Uncle Keith we pay our dues
The team we have is happy news
Hope he never turns away
I went down to the sacred store
£55 a shirt (I made for the door)
And the man asked how I wanted to pay
And in the stands the supporters screamed
Cheering on the Black, Gold and Green
But not a word was spoken
Lest Larry's concentration might be broken
And the two men that I admire the most
Uncle Keith and Smudge (if I must boast)
The opposition we'll surely roast
And I wear the shirt with pride!
The crowd were singing.....
Cry! Cry! I'm a Saint 'til die
Every home game up to FG
Where expectation is high
And the boys in the bar, drinking the Guinness tap dry
Singing, I'll be a Saint 'til I die
I'll be a Saint 'til I die.......
