Who are the Saints Supporters Club

By Saints Supporters Club
September 28 2004

The Saints Supporters Club are perhaps better known for their organising of travel to away games, but this is only one of the clubs activities. So if you have joined and paid your £5 membership and you buy your tote tickets at every home game (or you should!!). Where does that money actually go?

Well, with over five hundred Supporter Club members last year and four newsletters such to send out to each member, the postage alone soon adds up.

The Supporters Club also runs buses to EVERY league and domestic cup game, to get you the supporter to each and every of these matches. The SSC underwrites the cost of these trips. So if we do not fill up the buses to Kingston Park, we have to pick up the tab.

However, more important than this is the financial support we have given to the Youth, Under 21s and Academy sides at the Saints, including for the first time support for the new Girls Academy. Since the beginning of the 1995/96 Season this has exceeded a total of £11,000 in donations. This has included £1,800 towards physio equipment (used by all players), £5000 towards the youth teams 1997 Tour to the U.S.A., £600 towards their 2000 tour to Harrogate, and last season donations of £500 to the Boys Academy for medical Consumables and £500 to the new Girl's Academy toward indoor training facilities during wet weather.

We have also made donations to Steve Kenyon (Paralysed whilst playing for the East Midlands Under 21s), the 1998 Northampton Flood Fund, Harvey's Testimonial and the Andy Blyth Benefit.

For the last few years we have staged the Christmas Free Draw in Early December, which is open to all Supporter Club Members. The Supporters Club supplies all prizes. Last year the top prize was a Flying lesson and was won by the Supporters Clubs new Chairman, Dave Wilton (suggestions of a fix!!). We will be holding this event again this year, but you've got to be there, and to be a SSC member to win a prize!

In previous seasons the Supporters Club has also laid on bands and discos upstairs in the Strutridge Pavilion. Since this bar was given over to sponsors, we have not been able to do this, but we hope to put entertainment on in the new bar in the Tetley's Stand on a regular basis. Already this season our early forays in this venture have proved to be a big success.

Keep watching out for more post match live music supplied by the SSC soon.

So now you know where the money goes, so keep buying your tote tickets and get your friends to join the Supporters Club, and of course if you are not a member yourself join up for the coming campaign. Click the link 'Join the Supporters Club' link at the bottom of this page for the form. Together we can continue to support the future of the Saints.

Regards
