Winning becoming a habit

For the first time this season, Leeds registered consecutive league wins when they produced a six try demolition of Moseley. Wharfedale’s picturesque ground was the setting for this Remembrance Day encounter, and on a lovely autumnal afternoon it didn’t take long for the ‘hosts’ to get on the scoreboard.
Just six minutes into the game, and Leeds broke down the left flank, with Griffin and Doherty to the fore. When the ball was shipped inside, Joe Ford sent Freddie Burdon into a gap, and he brushed off a weak tackle to cross at the side of the posts. Joe added the extras, and Leeds was on their way. Mose pulled 3 points back when Griffin was penalised but on 17 minutes, Leeds chose to go for touch instead of goal when they had a penalty, and they were rewarded when the pack drove over the line, Richard Beck emerging from the bottom of the heap to be credited with the try. No conversion; and another penalty to the visitors reduced the lead, but only for three minutes.
Leeds stole a Moseley line out, and moved the ball quickly across field. Griffin was stopped short, but when the ball came back, David Doherty was on hand to evade two tackles and cross close enough to the posts for Joe to add the extras.
19 – 6 became 19 – 9 when Ollie Thomas put another penalty between the sticks, but the lead was increased just before half time, when following a good drive from a line out, Doherty was again on hand to collect and cross beside the posts. The conversion was a formality, and after 38 minutes Leeds had the bonus point.
On the stroke of half time, Thomas kicked another penalty for the visitors, but Leeds were good value for their half time lead of 26 – 12.
We sat back and waited for the avalanche in the second half, but it never came. Leeds had a lot of possession and territory but couldn’t turn it into points. Eventually Leeds won a scrum and James Doherty picked up at the base of the scrum and scampered over under the sticks. More points for Joe, and in all honesty a cricket score was looking on the cards. It didn’t materialise though, and aided by some poor Leeds tackling, in midfield, Moseley had a couple of sorties into Leeds territory, however their support play wasn’t there, and Leeds managed to scramble back and clear any danger.
As the game drew to a conclusion, Leeds had a try disallowed when the ref., impeded a Mose defender, but shortly after the scoring was complete when the forwards again pushed the Moseley pack over the line, this time Lee Imiolek credited as the try scorer.
All in all, a comprehensive win, but Moseley didn’t offer much, and much sterner tests lie ahead. The line out didn’t function well today, with both sides managing to pinch the others ball, and some of the midfield tackling wasn’t great either, but Leeds delivered a workmanlike team display which I think will stand them in good stead in the weeks to come.
No individual stood out, but mention to Dave Doherty who took his tries very well, and my bottle of pop this week goes to Jacob Rowan for another grafting effort in the back row.
Well done too to Wharfedale. A smashing club, friendly, and knowledgeable fans. How many of them will bother to come to the fortress when we return there, remains to be seen, but a crowd in excess of 1400 should have added a few quid to their club funds, so well done to them.

But, a bonus point win is good enough and consolidates our position in the top four. So well done lads and good report Haxby.
Really enjoyed the day despite having to drive 125 miles round trip to a home game.Beautiful setting, and a great atmosphere and if Leeds repeat the experience I will make a full day of it.
I will never get tired of watching us score tries - and despite some of the issues which we all know, this year's team are a joy to watch (most of the time)
Yes there are much tougher tasks ahead - and a stronger team than Moseley would have punished some of our mistakes today (we should not lose 2 attacking lineoutsin a row for example) but I am happy with the progress to date this season.
And I know it isn't the prevailing view of this board, but I for one, am enjoying the "on the road" games. Whatever the reason for them was, (and lets face it the pitch needs relaying and a neutral would always say do it now as opposed to midway through the Rhino's season), it has given me the opportunity to go to grounds I would never have normally gone to
Great venue and a good performance from Leeds. You can only beat what's in front of you and Leeds did that convincingly today.
Am I right in thinking that Joe didnt take one shot at goal today (apart from the conversions) choosing to kick every penalty to touch.
Moseley were poor but they never gave up and looked to run the ball at every opportunity so credit to them for that.

A great day out, super host club and delighful setting on such a day. (Could easily have been horizontal rain, howling gale or snow, but it wasn't!)
A good result and performance (mostly) by the lads. While Jacob Rowans performance is almost guarenteed weekly, I thought Richard Beck had an outstanding game here.
But we must cut out silly errors and 'play the ref' much better than this game. He clearly 'had a thing' about not rolling away after the tackle, but we kept on doing it and getting pinged for it!
Isn't it bleedin'obvious that if the ref has a thing about anything, don't do it!
Good show though, keep up the good work.

Lets hope we can continue the good form away against Roth who i suspect will be a sterner task than moseley proved yesterday.
