Yorkshire Carnegie travels to the West Midlands today for the first of back-to-back fixtures against Moseley. The ground at Billesley Common is a favourite destination for many Tykes. However after last weekend's home defeat by league leaders Bristol today's fixture is a must win for Carnegie against the league's perennial strugglers.
The Bristol game illustrated, for me, the gap between where we ought to be at this stage of the season and where we actually are. Bristol managed that game competently, defended well when we were ascendant and took the points on offer when the opportunities arose. They left Headingley with four points which is what they deserved despite some observers noting that they did not play all that well. We showed signs of improvement but came away with nothing.
Our friends from Jersey had a good win at Nottingham last night so the league table this morning shows us in fourth place on 53 points with Jersey in fifth with 46 points. Defeat today would leave us with 9 wins and 9 defeats and some tough fixtures in the run in. The 7 point gap could soon disappear. A good win would give us a 12 point buffer and a positive start to the run in.
The Moseley squad has several former players of ours in it. The man who could piddle on our bonfire today is Glyn Hughes. I still remmember his time in LS6 with fondness and he will always, in my mind, be associated with the J-Lo running rugby that we enjoyed so much. I just hope that KS continues last week's efforts and that he is the stand off that we are all talking about at teatime today. Brush has been able to name the same back division for the second game in a row. This can only be a good thing. The pack looks OK and we have a strong bench so there can be no excuses if the lads do not bring back at least 4 points today.
Despite the "Billesley breeze" and the presence of Glyn Hughes I expect YC to win by 10 points. If you are not travelling to Birmingham then join us on here for informed analysis as the match unfolds.

I'll settle for a win and 4 points. That will leave Jersey needing to win 3 games more than us, with only 4 fixtures left.

Good preview as always. A must win game. If only to give us a chance to get into the plays offs. Games against Bedford, Nottingham at home and Welsh and Jersey away is not going to make maintaining a top four spot easy. That having been said, with our record this season, are we Premiership quality? I think not. I do however predict a good five pointer for us today.

Brilliant...much needed 5 pointer...Wewll done lads... and hoping we can carry that forward. But then again ....we 'should' have won thsi one convincingly...so put the champagne away!?

Bare minimum against the bottom side I would have thought. Unsurprisingly, Bedford framed and recorded a five-pointer so it's as you were.

It is difficult to gauge how we played. We asked for 5 points and the lads delivered them. No yellow cards. I got the impression that KS was calling the shots. No doubt that Almo will enlighten us in due course.
5 points but not an impressive performance in my view. Turgid at times especially in the second half with a lot of unimaginative stuff played just either side of the half way line and many errors but we scored some decent tries. Job done but no more than that.

Not pretty by us, and it should have been more, but if you get chance to watch the highlights, the grubber kick by Sinfield & Forsyth's pick up for our BP try (which happened just in front of me) was by itself worth the trip......

At this stage of the season, the result is more important than the performance. A potential banana skin avoided today, and a step nearer to the play offs.

Inclined to think as others...job done...but doesn't sound too impressive...but will look forward to seeing the highlights 'negie...I was hoping for a bit more enterprise and varie-try...so maybe some green shoots there that will mature against Bedford?

The scrum until Charlie Beech And Rob O Donnell came on creaked mainly because of a palpable unfit Lee Imoliek who was blowing during the warm up.
Penalty count against us was again dire. Same errors as last week and the same crass indiscretions .

I wasn't there so accept what others are saying. Sounds a bit bleak though Farmer?Wish there had been a bit more to impress...although highlights looked OK? Can we do enough to lift our game before we face bedford? What is the key to improvement?
Selby it was bleak and highlights are what they are ........highlights. If we cut out the stupid penalties then that would be an improvement.
To be brutally honest
Our results over the season so far have made it blatantly obvious that we aren't good enough.
For me, performances dont matter now. We just need to get the results, avoid Bristol in the semi's by getting third place and hope we can do something against Donny.

5 points are 5 points. Keeps the chasing pack away at arm's length. 2 weeks now before the Bedford match at Headingley. Time to rest a bit and then for the coaching staff to get stuck in to the players. Get them fit and capable of playing a full 80 minutes, reintroduce the players to the basic skills of rugby union and finally instill in their mentality that discipline matters and that the lack of it costs dearly. Oh and a afterthought, persuade our illustrious captain to be precisely that, a captain and a leader!
I enjoyed that.
Bit surprised by the disappointment expressed by others but my last point of reference was the London Scottish match where I realised we just don't have, sorry, can no longer afford players that we've enjoyed watching since the Phil Davies era.
With that constraint in mind I thought we played okay. We're not going to beat Bristol and get promoted. Any of you really not realise that?

Leonard at 12 gave two kick options that meant [hurray] no moronic unchallenged kicks to opposing full back....grr....
But...he ain't got the pace for a 12 as was evident when that almost brilliant try [did it start with the Imiolek break?] ended by a terrific try saving tackle on Leonard.
Pilgrim looked the business at 9.
Why are two of our back rowers and one of our locks carrying fat? Are they full time professionals? If not. I understand. If so....how the bloody hell is that explained? Don't mention Billy Vunipola - he is a rare genetic freak.
And that Sinners "grubber" wasn't a normal grubber. It was off the outside of the boot at right angles to play. Class.

In the main we just looked slow and unimaginative. A season long complaint of mine. The speed of recycling was true to form as well.

Was the pass for the second try also from Sinfield? I'm waiting for the highlights to see, it happened so fast, the Moseley defence weren't the only ones to miss it.
At whatever level Rugby is played nowadays, breaking the defensive line is so hard, its almost impossible you need the unexpected and brilliant bit of skill to get through,
Kevin seems to be starting to get to grips with Union or is it that the other backs are getting used to playing with him.
Who knows but two Try's from the backs which completely wrong footed the defence can't be bad.

Any one who thought Mossley would lay down as they did at Headingly was deluded ! They are now in a fight for their life and battle they did. Some of the people on here should find another sport . It was cold windy and a very heavy difficult pitch . 5 pnt win is what we wanted and 5 pnt win is what we got . Well done to all the lads who battled for result . COYC !!!!!!
Knavesmire you make some interesting points and I agree we will not beat Bristol .
Regarding fitness there are some players that look as though they are carrying a little too much weight but seem to be the players that are not playing every week so they must be finding it difficult to get fully fit.
As you say Sinfields grubber through for Forsyth was class as was his pass for the latters first try.
