Baa Baas Shield

Edinburgh Academicals 0  v Barbarians 43

A  Fantastic evening and a historic occasion, with Edinburgh Accies celebrating their 150th birthday by welcoming the Barbarians to their famous Raeburn Place

The Barbarians ran in seven tries as they claimed victory in a match staged to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the formation of Edinburgh Accies.  From th outset the Baa Baas showed their pace and fast flowing rugby that is the tradition of this famous club.

Within six minutes the Baa Baas were on the score sheet from a scrum on the right, they side snapped the ball across the pitch to Cardiff centre Nick Macleod who finishing off the attack with a try.   The second try came from Sale's Genaro Fessia and he added another  two minutes later, squeezing over in the left corner.  Newcastle fly-half Rob Miller's second conversion of the evening bringing up the Half Time score of 19-0.

It was The Baa Baas  night, demonstrating their class and skills.  The second half  they turned into a rout, with former Scotland full-back Stuart Moffat,(now Viadana) going over for the fourth try.  More tries from Craig Hammond, Ross Samson and Lee Best.

Although Edinburgh Academicals tried so hard they were not in the same class, they kept on trying to the end and almost had a try through David Rattray who managed somehow to get past three Baa Baas but not the last one   However, Edinburgh's 16th man more than  3000 of them, put in a splendid performance on a cold night.  They also saw their  Captain  Dan Teague receive the man  of the match award.   To be fair  to Edinburgh when you look at the line up of players from the Baa Baas - Well................
