England Women U20s to take on the USA, Canada and Wales in Nations Cup

England Women's Rugby U20

Nations Cup Potential Squad + Fixtures 2009

England Women Under 20s will take on Wales, the USA and Canada as they bid to retain their Under 20s Nations Cup crown this summer.

The reigning Nations Cup champions will have home advantage on their side with the tournament being staged at Brunel University from July 9th - 18th.

The USA are new entrants to the tournament this year and they will open their championship campaign against Wales on July 9th. England meanwhile will take on Canada, a side they defeated twice last season, on the same day.

Nicola Ponsford, the RFUW's Head of Performance, said: "The U20 Nations Cup represents a fantastic opportunity for the players to play against the best U20 teams in the world and to put into practice all the skills they have been working on during the season.

"The tournament introduces players to the pressures of international rugby in a format that replicates the World Cup so coaches have the opportunity to see which players thrive in this arena. There will be no easy games so players will have to stand up and be counted throughout the tournament."

Ponsford added: "The U20s programme has developed a number of key players that have made the step up to senior rugby, including Emily Scarratt. Emily competed for the U20s in this tournament last year and has since gone on to score nine tries in eight games for England seniors."

Under 20s Nations Cup playing schedule:

Can you get your facts right?

This is the press release issued by RFUW nearly three weeks ago - and is not the final squad as they have not had their medicals yet.

Also the picture is a shade irrelevant as Emily is not in the U20 squad.

While it is good to see a coverage of the women's game please could we have a bit of knowledgeable, critical coverage and not the slavish (and late!) reproduction of RFUW handouts?

If you want something to write about why not a few comments about the RFU not allowing the Women's World Cup final next year to be held at Twickenham - a slightly juicier story (and not something contained in an RFUW press release!),

johnbirch: Whoops sorry to upset you John did not mean to!

This was the only press release I have had through and yes it was a while ago but I have had no others so went with this thinking it was ok.

Perhaps you would like to write somthing then?

I am trying to cover quite a few items at the moment.

Sorry to upset you.

I may add John that I did not go with this three weeks ago as it seemed far to far ahead of its time that is why I sat on it.

And the other thing it is easy to knock when I/we get it wrong but I never hear many saying well done on our coverage of rugby.

Anyway I hope the corrections have made you a happy man
