By Patrick
December 31 2009

After the busy period of the Autumn Internationals, back in November, December proved to be a relatively quiet month for England Rugby. We take a look at the Sevens team campaign in George, South Africa, the England U18's squad to take on Australia and some product news on the England Blagattas we mentioned a few months ago... ENGLAND RUGBY
DECEMBER 2009: IN REVIEW

England 7s Fixtures and Results - George, South Africa 11th/12th December

No changes to the squad for the next round of the IRB Series Sevens. The tournament is once again the second stop on the eight-leg IRB Sevens World Series and the only tournament hosted on the African continent. Outeniqua Park will host the world's leading Sevens players over two days on 11-12 December 2009.

After having an excellent opening day in George, beating Tunisia 45-0, Argentina 17-7 and Scotland 19-29, the England Sevens team ultimately lost out to New Zealand in the quarter finals, with a hard fought match that ended 19-22.

England did however finish the competition strongly, beating Australia 5-24 in the semis, and South Africa in the Plate Final, 21-7

England are unbeaten at this level in 17 games - 12 of them internationals - since an 11-3 defeat in their last meeting with Australia in the summer of 2007.

But this is a new squad with only a handful of survivors from the side that finished last season by beating South Africa 45-13 in Kimberley.

One of those returning is George Ford, the fly half who made his first team debut for Leicester Tigers at the age of 16 in the LV= Cup last month, becoming the youngest player ever to appear in a professional club game.
