England Sevens are off to a winning start beating their Welsh rivals 26-10 at the Las Vegas Sevens.

England scored four tries with captain Ben Gollings crossing the line twice and adding six points with the boot whilst James Rodwell (Moseley) and Bristol's Dan Norton also added to the tally.

Gollings' first half try eased England pressure after they conceded two early unconverted tries going in at the break 7-10 down.

England came out attacking in the second half through replacement Norton whose 50 metre charge led to him going over with Gollings' conversion putting England 12-10 ahead.

In the final minute Tom Powell's (Cambridge) pass out from the ruck to waiting Rodwell sent him over to extend their lead to 19-10.

Gollings rubbed salt into Welsh wounds on the buzzer after receiving an inside pass from Nick Royle (Fylde) to land under the posts, converting his own try to finish on 26-10.

Christian Wade in action for England Sevens

England 24 - 5 Japan

Christian Wade scores two tries to help England Sevens beat Japan 24-5 in their second victory of the Las Vegas Sevens.

The Wasps wing crossed the line twice in the second half adding to tries from Jake Abbott (Worcester Warriors) and Blackheath's Dan Caprice.

Earlier England beat Wales in their opening pool match scoring four tries and carried on the trend scoring another four against Japan with Ben Gollings (Gold Coast) adding two conversions.

Early pressure resulted in England going behind 0-5 after they were penalised for holding on at the ruck Japan slipping through England's defence to go over for their only points.

Some good offloading from Caprice to inside man Abbott resulted in his try for a half time 5-5 draw.

Wade scored his first try after the break landing between the posts after receiving an outside pass from Bristol's Dan Norton and he found the line again after the restart, sidestepping defenders to give England a 17-5 lead.

Caprice powered over in the last minute fighting his way through Japan and Gollings slotted the conversion to finish on 24-5.

South Africa 27-14 England Sevens

England Sevens suffered a disappointing 27-14 defeat at the hands of South Africa in their plate semi final of the Las Vegas Sevens.

Earlier England lost to Kenya in their cup quarter final during extra time and they were upset again by a flat performance against the Boks.

England were 17-7 down at half time after three quickly taken tries by South Africa, the first in the 56th minute, Kyle Brown charging under the posts for a converted try.

The other two were from the restart, South Africa quickly gaining possession to send Steven Hunt over in the top corner and then again putting pressure on England to send Brown in for his second.

England answered back on the buzzer through captain Ben Gollings (Gold Coast Breakers) who chased his own kick to score and convert.

A South Africa penalty saw Hunt charge through Dan Caprice (Blackheath) and over the line for another try early in the second half.

England gained possession from the restart but quickly lost it, South Africa turning them over to send Cecil Afrika in for their final try, giving England an impossible task to come back from 27-7.

Bristol's Dan Norton did have a go tough and scored on the buzzer after receiving an outside pass from Gollings for a converted try to finish on 27-14.

Head Coach Ben Ryan said, "We had a good first day yesterday and set ourselves up nicely for today. Unfortunately we didn't take our opportunities during the quarter final against Kenya and that disappointment that the players felt was still evident on the field in the semi final against South Africa, where we produced a pretty flat performance and didn't ask enough questions in attack or defence.

"We are now at midway stage of the competition with a lot to do to try to win this Series. There are positives to take from the last three weeks but we are in this to win things. We need to have a look and see what went wrong but South Africa were far more up for the fight today."

England: Christian Wade (London Wasps), James Rodwell (Moseley), Jake Abbott (Worcester Warriors), Dan Caprice (Blackheath), Ben Gollings (capt, Gold Coast, Australia), Mat Turner (Bristol Rugby), Donald Barrell (Saracens)

England Sevens 21 - 26 Kenya

England Sevens have lost 26-21 to Kenya in sudden death extra time at the Las Vegas Sevens.

It was a disappointing blow for Ben Ryan's young guns who put in a mature performance against a quick and physical Kenyan side.

Captain Ben Gollings (Gold Coast Breakers) led by example scoring a try and converting three but the pressure showed in extra time with Kenya turning England over for the vital try.

England's speedsters Christian Wade (London Wasps) and Dan Norton (Bristol Rugby) added their own scores but Kenya answered back every time and on the buzzer scored the equaliser to take the game into extra time.

England were 14-7 up at half time Wade went over in the third minute showing his pace by outrunning and sidestepping the Kenyan defence and it was Wade who had a hand in the second try sending Gollings in under the posts just before the break.

Kenya came back at England from the restart to equalise with Collins Injera scoring the converted try for 14 apiece.

It looked like England would clinch victory after Blackheath's Dan Caprice broke through midfield to offload inside to Norton to put them 21-14 ahead but with two minutes remaining Kenya scored again, drawing England into the breakdown to send Humphrey Kayange over and send the match into extra time.

And after a tense three minutes Kenya stole the match turning England over in their own half and charging over in the corner to win 26-21.

England will face South Africa in the plate semi final at 15.38pm local time (GMT -8).
