England's Amy Wilson-Hardy

England, who won the Cup competition in last weekend’s first leg in Moscow, couldn’t match their efforts this weekend in France after being knocked out in the quarter finals stages by Spain (14-19) this morning.

That defeat pitted England against Germany in the Plate semi-finals, a side they had defeated 33-7 on Saturday, and today they bettered that effort running in 40-0 winners with Megan Jones, Emily Scott (2), Amy Wilson-Hardy, Sophie Lee and skipper Abigail Chamberlain all scoring.

The Plate final then saw England take on Portugal and England made relatively light work of that final, taking a 14-0 victory with a brace of tries from Natasha Brennan and two conversions from Thurrock player Scott.

England Sevens Head Coach Simon Middleton said: “Obviously we would have loved to have won this leg as well but we didn’t come here expecting that and we are actually pleased to still come home with some silverware. This is a young squad and this is a huge development curve for many of the players which is really only going to stand them in good stead for the future.”
