Jonny Wilkinson: Lions & Falcons

Subtitled "My Diary of a Remarkable Year" Wilkinson's book details the events of the 2000 - 2001 season, from his pre-season operation, the Tetley Bitter Cup win through to the Lions Tour to Australia. The paperback version is updated to include the postponed final match of the 2001 6 Nations tournament, when Ireland prevented England from winning the Grand Slam.
The book includes a fairly wide selection of photographs, ranging from England, Falcons and the Lions, including one of Jonny with his Dad, who has to have one the most impressive moustaches I've ever seen!
If you are hoping for scandal and shocking revelations then this isn't the book for you - as I don't think Jonny has a bad word to say about anyone in the whole book! That's not to say the book is a bad read, it's not. It's honest and drily funny account of Jonny's year. Neil Squires, the ghost-writer has done a good job , and Wilkinson comes across as an incredibly dedicated sportsman, who lives for his sport.
However there is life outside of rugby as the desciption of my own favourite moment - "Bad Stash Day" - proved, I just wish there had been photos!
This one is a must for all rugby fans - but particularly Falcons' fans.
Originally published by Headline in hardback in 2001, priced 18.99, the updated paperback was published last year.
