Jamie Miller quits crisis-hit Cov for Bristol

By Brian Dick, Coventry Telegraph
December 15 2009

BRISTOL have confirmed Jamie Miller has become the first player to leave Coventry in the wake of the club’s financial meltdown. The 22-year-old has signed a short-term contract to take him to the Memorial Stadium, ending his stay at the Butts Park Arena in his third season. Throughout his two-and-a-half years with the club, the dynamic back rower played 65 games and was last term rewarded or his outstanding performances with the first team captaincy.

He had continued that form this term and scored five tries for the Blue and Whites before disaster struck a fortnight ago.

“Having the chance to play for a club like Bristol is a big moment for me,” Miller said.

“It’s a massive opportunity to further my career and hopefully help Bristol in their bid for promotion.

“Obviously the financial instability at Coventry was a factor in my decision but in truth it was a fairly straightforward one.

“Like all professional rugby players, I want to play at the top level and I have a chance to do that with Bristol.

“I’m now looking forward to getting stuck in with the club and hopefully contributing towards a successful season.”

Mr Minshull
You must be living in a parallel universe
- pay cheques bouncing every month since July,
- no pay since October,
- players being forced to move out of their accommodation because they haven't paid the rent,
- others having to move out this month because they can't pay January's rent & if they do no guarantee that the club will still exist at the end of the month,
- players moving back to their homes & travelling over 200 miles to train - to play touch rugby !!!
- having to tell their families that Xmas might be a bit tight this year,
- lies followed by more lies.

Tell us - how long did you continue to work when you weren't getting paid, these guys are now into their 7th week, & a new employer offers you a job ?

Don't you dare criticise the players's loyalty.

PLUS - Maynard has already let it be known to the players that some of them won't be offered new contracts under the new owners - only he hasn't told them which players.

Loyalty......!!!!!!!!!!

Apologies, didn't mean to imply there were new owners.

Should have said IF there are new owners, Maynard has said he would not renew the contracts of some of the players - but hasn't had the decency to say which.

The players believe that it is Maynard who should not have his contract renewed !

yes,i was in town and it was reported that ,a MR TED STOCKER and MR IAN NEALE had purchased the club and ground for over 2million plus had earmarked a further 1million for strenghing the squad. sounds great.but i did some research on both. mr neale aparently owns nuneaton soccer club,he bought it from administration after mr stocker got into a mess with it and he also kicked nuneaton rfc off their own ground and made them play on the cowpatch or pay him 1000 quid a game to play on their own pitch. mr stocker was at cov in the late nineties for a while, but then he vanished after his company. future telephony plc. went bust for about 15million. anyway i have no doubt that coventry council will get it right this time ,but confusing to say the least, sounds another mess. cov in somerset ,will be able to research ,future integrated telephony plc. and ian neake construction ltd. please....

there is a lot of BS about Magwitch.
but my point here is that the idea that a coach losing players from his squad would increase the likelihood of further players leaving by suggesting some of them are on the way out anyway is preposterous.

Regarding the second point as far as I can see the players and coaching staff seem very united. I personally think that Maynard is a good coach/manager.

i'm only suprised more haven't gone.

we were right about the bond, i haven't got a problem with it, mike umaga had to be paid. the suits at the rfu saw to it we paid it.

time to move on and get into the new year with a viable rugby club.

If its the same person Ted was a Director back at Coundon road...who also had a seat on the Football clubs board.....Ian Neale is the director at Nuneaton FC so they are both well qualified.....

the person said,OWNERS, so in the plural, which seems to indicate its not an OWNER, but more than one person. the coach is on his way ,it seems that big savings are made by cutting at the top. i have no topclass rugby playing experience, neither has magwich or sk ,by the looks of their comments,.but ,time is running out and the squd is getting smaller by the day,and the best players being snapped up,leaving us with the lesser talented players,spirited,non-the less.very worried i and others are abuot this .
