Lee Parry lifts Coventry as Drew Locke moves

PHIL Maynard received a double boost of sorts yesterday with one player arriving at Butts Park and one leaving. Winger Lee Parry has returned to the club more than nine months after sustaining a serious knee injury. But centre Drew Locke has finalised his controversial transfer to Exeter, amid claims from rugby director Phil Maynard the way in which the move had been engineered  was “unethical”.

Maynard is upset at the manner in which Locke’s agent acted and alleges the Sandy Park side made an improper approach for the talented youngster after he had turned in a star performance in the game between the teams last month.

But to temper his frustration, Cov have received a four-figure sum in compensation from the Chiefs in a deal that appears to suit both sides.

“There were certain grey areas in Exeter’s approach to Drew Locke,” Maynard said.

“His agent has already admitted he had been unethical about it too.

“But a compensation agreement has been reached and we’ll all move on.”

On the positive side Parry’s return is a massive boost.

The 22-year-old had feared he would be out for a year after surgery in July to repair ruptured lateral and anterior ligaments.

He picked up the injury playing against Otley last March but has made such a speedy recovery he will be able to contribute this season.

He has returned to training and, if he gets the go-ahead when he sees his specialist at the end of the month, the former Nuneaton three-quarter will slot back into the Blue and White squad.

Sorry, but other than one good spell in one game against Exter, I don't know what this sudden fuss re Locke is all about.

Best of luck to Drew, but he'll be on the bench as he was here.
