PETER Rossborough believes Coventry can look forward to a happy 2011 after surviving one of the most difficult years in the club’s history.While former owner Andrew Green continues to experience the ramifications of his disastrous tenure at Butts Park and is the subject of an RFU suspension, Rossborough maintains the Blue and Whites are well on the way to recovery.

They sit mid table in National One, with a largely local squad that has been well received by the supporters and harbour realistic ambitions of finishing in the top half of the division.

And the situation is just as positive off the pitch with new backers having rallied around to save one of the most famous names in the sport and the possibility of more on the way.

“We have stopped moving backwards,” Rossborough told the Coventry Telegraph. “We have stopped the fall completely and have been very, very fortunate in the quality of some of the sponsors we have got, especially Jaguar Land Rover and Unipart Logistics – both of whom have been superb for us.

“That has meant that despite relegation – which is still something we would have rather not happened – we have pulled things round and moved forward both in rugby and a community sense.

“Understandably there is still some slight suspicion in the business community because of the events that have happened in the past decade but there has been a thawing, helped by the fact the city council and RFU have shown us so much support and two major sponsors have added to our credibility.”

This is good news and I am encouraged in reading it. I hope however, the long lay off due to the weather will not have a negative effect, since cash flow could be affected, not just for Coventry but for many other clubs also. I suppose we are lucky in having other revenue streams.A good crowd tomorrow is essential, so make sure you are there.
