Coventry Rugby are pleased to confirm that a further three players have been retained from last season’s squad, bringing the retained list up to 17, together with the 16 new signings already announced.
Coventry’s longest serving player, fullback Ben Russell has re-signed as well as back row forward Owen Whittle and fly half Will Maisey.
Ben Russell, aged 28, starts his 8th consecutive season, joining Coventry Rugby as a 21 year old, and being made club captain in that first year. Playing initially as a fly half Ben has more recently fitted mainly in as fullback, although late last season was pressed into service again as fly half to steady the ship. Appearances totalled 27 in his first season in National league 1, whilst last season he made 25 including replacements.
Owen Whittle, aged 19 is a back row forward playing mainly at No 8, was part of last season’s Coventry squad, and was named as replacement on 2 occasions, as well as turning out for the Nighthawks side. Presently recovered from an operation Owen hopes that he will shortly be available.
Will Maisey, also aged 19 plays fly half, was also part of last season’s squad, making 3 appearances, including a start against Sedgley Park as well as turning out for the Coventry Nighthawks. Will looks forward to be part of the newly assembled Coventry squad.
