Addleton says unbeaten Cov haven't got out of third gear yet

Having for many years been the man to whom Coventry have turned to fight fires, Dave Addleton is enjoying the warm glow of his club’s unbeaten start to National One.

They have already made their best opening to a season for 16 years and will have the chance to extend that run at winless Blaydon this weekend.

They have the second best points difference in the division and but for an aberration at Richmond, where they won by a point, their defence has been watertight.

All of which is a far cry from the recent past for a coach who has so often been left to pick up the pieces when things have gone sour or coaches have departed.

"It’s a great start,” the former hooker said. “Especially for the young guys who have just come in, for me it is nice not to be battling away under the cosh.

"There is a nice feeling around the club which runs through the squad and the coaches.

“On Saturday we had nearly 1,500 people in the crowd and that makes a hell of a difference to the team.”

Scott Morgan insists there is still plenty to come from Cov

The win over Henley Hawks was Cov’s biggest attendance for a couple of years and a sign that the latent affection they have always claimed to hold, could be mobilising and coming out of the woodwork to support a side that has played attractive rugby so far.

Albeit with the cub’s share of the possession. “The ball we are getting we are making the most of. We are scoring tries,” Addleton said.

Kimbo, I thought the ford pop only had 3 gears.....

Great to see Donno back in the frame, thought he had retired.
