Coventry have been left to count the cost of Saturday’s win over Blaydon with possible long-term injuries to winger Dom Lespierre and flanker Lewis Ludlam.

Lespierre, who scored Cov’s first two tries in the 34-15 victory, suffered a fractured jaw and is expected to be out for six weeks after undergoing an operation to insert a plate, while Ludlam is awaiting an assessment on damaged ankle ligaments after limping off four minutes into the second half.

Fourth in the list of National League One try scorers with 15 for the season, Lespierre went off for treatment in first-half stoppage time but returned after the break before he was finally replaced by Dan Rundle after 62 minutes.

“At first he thought he had just broken a tooth,” explained rugby director Phil Maynard, “but the pain became worse over the course of the evening and he went to hospital where an x-ray revealed the fracture. He was kept in overnight and was having a plate put in on Sunday.
