Rugby Lions 24 Luctonians 10

RUGBY LIONS struggled to beat high-flying Midlands One side Luctonians to progress in the EDF Energy National Trophy. Lions had the first attack but errors cost them. A block tackle on Lions' wing Tom Harris saw Lucts' Chris James sin-binned on 10 minutes but the Midlands One leaders still looked a forceful outfit. Lions took the lead on 20 minutes with Ade Hales coasting in but Lucts continued to threaten against a virtually full-strength Rugby side. Harris then added a second try.

Lions made several changes after the break but it only brought a try for Lucts' Peter Smith and a penalty and conversion by James to make it 10-10.

Lions' skipper Alex Nash finally broke through to score, Harry Owens converting, and Nash did it again on 77 minutes to break Luctonians' resistance.
