Up and Under: Luke Myring's Coventry RFC column.

LAST weekend we disappointingly lost to a strong Jersey team by 29-3. I think it was a new experience for most of us at the weekend from waking up at 4am in the morning to catch a plane on match day to the gale force winds and horizontal rain which we were met with as we left the plane and which stayed with us throughout the trip.

The game started really well for us and I thought after going in at half-time only seven points adrift after playing against the wind we were definitely in position to take the game.

During the second half I think we probably took the fight to them too much, when we could have put them under pressure and made them play out against the wind. To be fair to Jersey, their performance was absolutely outstanding, the best I have played against this season as they starved us of possession, making us defend phase after phase and in the end they definitely deserved the win.

I just think that if we had done two or three things differently, it would have made a difference. Would that have been enough to win? Probably not as on the day they were the better team.

However, as always our effort and commitment could not and should not be questioned as we gave everything and I was proud of the boys at the end for that.
