Coventry Rugby Club contemplate changes to backline.

COVENTRY are contemplating numerous changes to their backline ahead of this weekend’s National One trip to Macclesfield.

With regular scrum-half Lewis Barker unavailable and wing Tom Harris back on the injury list, coach Pete Glackin must decide how many of his new recruits to introduce.

Newly signed former France Sevens international Khrist Kopetzky is one option in the No 9 shirt while dual-registered Moseley duo Callum MacBurnie and Mike Gillick could also be in line for debuts at Priory Park.

New Zealander James Otutaha is also in contention for a first start in the centre, while the more familiar face of Jeff Gregson, who scored 14 tries last season, is fit again on the wing.

All of which gives Glackin much to ponder ahead of the trip north, where Cov were hammered 37-21 just over 12 months ago.

“We need to get the balance right,” Glackin said. “These new lads had brought a real buzz to the squad and it’s good to have a few options there.

“You don’t want to change too much and in that respect the bad weather has helped us because we have had extra time to bed guys like Callum and Mike Gillick into our system.”
