This Saturday 17th November sees Coventry Rugby back at home at the Butts Park Arena  for their fixture against Wharfedale, kick off 3pm. The “Greens” as they are known are based just outside Grassington in the Yorkshire Dales, and were founded in 1923.

Under Head Coach Tom McGee and backs coach Jon Feeney they are currently in 10^th place on 29 points, just one point and one position ahead of Coventry Rugby, a position that they had finished at last season.

Their results so far this season show 5 wins, 5 losses and 1 draw, strangely a mirror image of that of Coventry. Usually very strong at home they have beaten two of the top six sides there in Fylde and Esher, and held third placed Blaydon to just 4 points .Their worst home defeat like Coventry was to then leaders Ealing Tfs, but last week saw them put 51 points against bottom side Cambridge.

Excellent away wins at Sedgley Park, Loughborough Students and an away draw at Old Albanians suggest that they are a more difficult to beat away than last season, although last season they did the double over Coventry  including a best forgotten away victory 3-8 .

Despite losing some key players such as Rob Baldwin to Leeds Carnegie, Joe Gill and Alex Reider both to Rotherham, Wharfedale have maintained close connections with Leeds Carnegie and indeed hosted Leeds Championship clash with Moseley on Sunday. Key DR players have come in From Leeds Carnegie including speedy winger Curtis Wilson, No 8 James Tyson and goal kicking fullback Christian Georgiou, with experienced Tom Davidson still available.

A good all round side Wharfedale possess both a strong pack and good backs, and therefore cannot be under-estimated. Experienced winger Simon Horsfall is scoring tries as is centre  Andy Hodgson, and other winger Nick Taylor.

The back row sees Dan Solomi, who has a penchant for scoring tries against Coventry as improving Aaron  Myers is making the headlines. An experienced front row is led by try scoring hooker Steve Graham.

With both sides struggling to put together a meaningful winning run together as they attempt to break into the top six in the league, Wharfedale’s better away form this season cannot be ignored as Coventry Rugby will have to be on their mettle to achieve their home win.
