COVENTRY’S third win in a row, and arguably the most impressive of the three as they continued their mid-season surge in some style.

This time the four-try bonus point eluded them, but this was a win built on their defence – the tightest in National League One – rather than attack, and the manner in which Cov contained a lively and usually free-scoring Loughborough side was outstanding.

The outcome was in the balance for the first hour, but by the time the game moved into the final quarter the Students were a spent force – hearts broken by repeatedly running into a brick-wall defence and, by then, devoid of ideas.

Cov’s second try on 62 minutes was the final straw, and a third score on the final whistle was just reward for a job very well done.

The man-of-the-match award went to Cov No.8 Jacques Le Roux, whose tackle count and running with ball in hand, beating the first defender every time, was again phenomenal.

But flanker Jamie Harrop must have run him close with his work at the breakdown, while the blossoming combination of Cliffie Hodgson at full-back and Will Maisey at fly-half again gave Cov the attacking options they needed.

This was, however, a day for the team with, to a man, everyone giving their all and showing desire and commitment to the cause to secure a result which gives Cov back-to-back victories on the road and a platform for the rest of the season.

Facing a chill breeze but going down the slight slope, Cov fell behind to a third-minute penalty from Andy Hall but were back on terms seven minutes later through a Hodgson kick.
