Results Saturday 23rd February:
Cambridge 24 27 Macclesfield
Sedgley Park 20 59 Fylde
Wharfedale 33 22 Loughborough Students
Somewhat of a truncated fixtures list last week with three re-arranged games taking place, with them all having a crucial influence on the final three relegation spots.
Macclesfield kept their escape hatch open with their bonus point win over bottom side Cambridge, now surely doomed to National League 2. The Cheshire side’s joy was somewhat dampened as news filtered through that Wharfedale managed to get a vital win their first in 9 games, albeit without a bonus point over Loughborough Students. Whether they will come to regret this one point remains to be seen as their lead ahead of Macclesfield is reduced to 9 points.
Sedgley Park found that their escape is more quickly fading as a rampant Fylde side ran in 9 tries, helped by a hat-trick by Ole Brennand. Fylde now on a run of 5 wins and 5 losses in their last 10 games got their fast off-loading game working especially in the 2nd half and ran out easy winners, a result that brings them up to 6th place.
These three results seem to confirm that the bottom two relegation places are taken and that only Macclesfield stands a chance of escaping realistically at the expense of Wharfedale.
