Matt Price calls on Coventry to maintain NL1 momentum.

STAND-IN skipper Matt Price expressed his relief Coventry have broken their sequence of narrow losses and says that Saturday’s businesslike victory over Blackheath must become the rule rather than the exception.

Coventry overcame the trauma of losing their last two matches in the final seconds when they swept aside The Club to re-ignite a campaign that had stalled.

Led by Price, who in the absence of the suspended Scott Morgan captained the Blue and Whites for the first time, Coventry were never behind at the Rectory Field as they went on to record a much-needed 30-8 triumph.

That exorcised any demons hanging over from heart-breaking defeats to Richmond and Fylde and Price urged his team-mates to build on that momentum and climb out of mid-table.

“It has been very frustrating,” the hooker admitted. “We were kind of thinking ‘What’s coming next’. We were not getting any rubs of the green.

“But we sat down as a group and spoke about how we needed to make sure it didn’t come down to one-pointers, decided by an odd bounce or a referee’s decision.

“We stopped off at a hotel beforehand, had a chat through exactly what we had to do, what areas we wanted to play in and how we wanted to do that. It was just a question of execution.

“That has to be the baseline for the rest of the season. We don’t want any more one-pointers. We have got to keep pressurising teams, keep expressing ourselves and keep getting over the gain-line.

“We are almost looking at going through the rest of the season unbeaten now. We are all thinking about the next game, which is a massive cliché, but if we keep doing that and taking care of business and perform like we did at the weekend, I think top five or six is realistic.”

Player of the season? anyone from Matty, Jacques, Heath or Cliffie. Greg might get a few votes.
