FORWARDS coach Dave Addleton refused to attribute Coventry’s 39-34 home defeat by Old Albanian to the postponement of their previous two National League One games.
“The fact that it was our first game for three weeks and they had played could have made a difference, but we had our chances to win the game and it was our own fault that we didn’t,” said Addleton.
“It was all about our performance on the day, we took two bonus points but it could have been five if we’d put our chances away.
“It was just a couple of defensive slips and our execution at times that cost us.
“Our defence has been rock solid all season, but we didn’t look after their inside runners and allowed them two tries that way which really hurt us.
“It was a tough game, and we just have to take it on the chin, go back to the drawing board and keep working hard.”
Cov scored five tries themselves, two for 18-year-old Northampton Academy winger Tom Collins on his debut and one a candidate for try of the season from centre Heath Stevens, who went through unchecked from 65 metres to cross between the posts.
I'm afraid I absolutely disagree. To attempt to claim that the difference lay in a "couple of defensive lapses" is to miss the point entirely and to be willfully blind to the reality of the situation.
OA were far more organised, alert, street wise, capable, inventive, creative, ruthless, faster, etc, etc - need I go on?
If our coaching team can only identify such small, and relatively insignificant issues as the differences between OA and Cov, you have to wonder about our future. Unfortunately too, such pathetic bleatings give an insight as to why we are where we are now, looking (yet again) nervously over our shoulder.
It may have been "just two defensive slips", but it became very evident after a short time, that OA's could make ground with ease, even from their own 25. I don't think I was the only one who became very nervous each time they got the ball in hand.
Yes I did mean 25, Kimbo. I don't give ground to Johnny Foreigner.
