Hooker Matt Price admits Coventry’s scrum was ‘made to look ordinary’ in Saturday’s defeat at Blaydon but says it will come fighting back this weekend.

Cov lost both their unbeaten record and ground on National One leaders Doncaster at Crow Trees as Blaydon turned in their best performance of the campaign to secure a 21-16 victory .

Key to that was the set-piece where the experienced ex-Newcastle prop Micky Ward enjoyed an excellent afternoon at tighthead and made things difficult for the visitors.

Indeed Price concedes his pack failed to find answers to the questions Ward posed. “We are a good scrummaging outfit but we just did a couple of minute things wrong – and they did them right.

“It was a tough day at the office because there was a lot of kidology going on before the scrums went down. In an ideal world, scrums would go down and everyone would push straight but it’s not like that.

“We were lined up then they would take a small step to the left and come in at a different angle. There’s no excuses, we should have done something about that.

“They are a good side, they were nice and tight and we were a bit loose on a couple and they punished us for it.

If that is what they did, then where on earth was the referee?

I think you know the answer to that one, Roger.
And if you add in the inadequacies of the ref's performance at our last home game, against Henley, you must be fully aware that the standard of refs in NL1 is dire.
