Having staged a very public evisceration of his Coventry players before last weekend’s game with Wharfedale, in which he questioned their heart, desire and right to wear the Blue and White shirt, Scott Morgan has been almost as fulsome in his praise following the match, which saw his side win for the first time in three weeks.

Morgan described himself as ‘devastated’ and ‘distraught’ after the loss to Old Albanian ten days ago but was much more chipper yesterday as he reflected on a convincing victory in which the 22-10 scoreline probably didn’t do the victors justice.

Despite missing out on a try bonus, Morgan was thrilled with the way his men responded to his criticism and the fact that even if it wasn’t the most polished tactical display, the passion for the shirt was evident for all to see.

Most pleasingly, Coventry scored tries through Mark Kohler, Will Hurrell and debutant openside Max Northcote-Green and were dominant in the forward exchanges and scrums.

“It was exactly what I wanted,” the head coach said. “I have got to say I have learned more in the last three weeks than I have all season.

“We have got to play in a certain way that takes care of 80 per cent of games. Games against the top teams will come down to tactical nous and individual brilliance a bit more.

Evisceration?

My dictionary say this means the removal of internal organs?

Whilst I am sure such a punishment was warranted after the Blaydon debacle, I am equally sure we would have noticed from the sidelines, unless the physio's buckets were used to disguise the fracas.

Hopefully this course of action won't be necessary in the future - it is too messy and attract the flies.
