Gooooooood moooooorning Goat Fans! So, I write to you on my way down to Rugby HQ to see one of the Rugby Spectacles of the Year. 'But CG', I hear you cry, 'the final of the Inter Counties thingy U20s when God's County Yorkshire won was last week?'. Yes, I know, however every year around this time an age old challenge is fought. When Twickers is full of leathered, can't stand up, sometimes naked Squaddies and Matelots all there to support their Service in the Babcock Challenge, the Annual Army vs Navy game.
The Babcock is fought as a challenge between the Army and Navy, now the RAF don't feature but they do feature in the Inter-Services. Safe to say, RAF rugby has been reminiscent of London Welsh's Premiership stints over the last decade or so. But then they tried a new tactic, recruiting ex-Professional rugby players to bolster their ranks. Our own Tom Rock was one, all in a bid to get RAF rugby back on track! Incidentally, Tom Rock is a Rock Ape now, yes Tom Rock is actually a Rock! Snigger!
Now this year, we have seen something rarer than a decent pint at HC, something I thought I would never see, ever. On 30 April, at Aldershot on a quiet evening, the RAF beat the Army, yes, they beat the Mighty Army Fijian Team. How, no one knows but they won. Now that raised an interesting concept. Regardless of the result at HQ, for the first time since 1994, the RAF will be Inter-Service Champions! Who'd have thought! My timeline has been full of gloating Crabs, however one thing remains and WILL always remain. Those Crabs will never feature at Twickers and have a cracking day on the lash, all in the name of Rugby,
MWUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Anyway, Yorkshire's close season is really starting to drag although the signings keep coming. Thankfully, the club care about their fans a lot, so much in fact that in a bid to prevent GelBel from throwing herself off the roof of the South Stand whilst clutching Harriet the Chuck, they have signed another Casson for her, this time of the Tom variety! Welcome Tom, glad to have you on board, even if you are from the wrong side of the Pennines!
I recently watched a little bit of Rhinosersaurus action and boy were they good. I must admit to cringing and hiding behind my hooves whenever Sir Kev got smashed. Thankfully he got through unscathed. Loved the way JP was miked up, the BBC must have smashed their overtime budget editing his banter!
One thing very worthy of mention. Our very own favourite sweary Hooker, ASBO, Champion of the People and Giver of Shorts and Stash is a Head Coach at Bradford Salem RFC. This year he has helped them to the Yorkshire Division 2 title, unbeaten, AND the Yorkshire Shield!! So, the the inaugural 'Horn of the Month' Award for May goes to Phil Nilsen!
Now, here is a question, provided the Club are ok with it, I would like to bring you an occasional interview with a player of choice. Who should be first? Something to keep our appetite wet for the loooooong close season. Maybe an Award Winning Player............... Hmmmmm, I wonder who might fit that bill, hmmmmmm?
Anyway, that's me. Beer to be drunk, grass to be munched and Matelots to be smashed!
Thanks for reading and Goat Thought for the Month - Goats really don't like flying, FACT!
