Terrace Verdict - Bedford - Another one gets away

No, the ten clipboard wielding men were not Tax Inspectors, but Trainee RFU Assessors. What they made of the Bedford match I will leave to calmer times. The game summed up Cov's season so far, and that season's epitaph might read "what might have been, what could have been, what should have been".

The game summed up Cov's season so far, and that season's epitaph might read "what might have been, what could have been, what should have been".

Once again there were too many unforced errors, chances spurned, and too many kickable penalties given away. and ultimately the inability to close a game down.

Yet, before the largest gate of the season, Cov tried to put the questionable decisions of the last month behind them and take the game to Bedford.

In running in three excellent tries, they made the much-vaunted Bedford back-row look decidedly human, and the front row gave Bedford's three a torrid time. However, all the good work was negated by problems in insisting on throws to the tail at the line-out, which misfired for much of the game.

Still, Coventry had more than enough chances to win, perhaps requiring a more controlled and measured approach to passing, and the patience to develop more sustained phases of play to increase the pressure on their opponents.

Cov's two young scrum halves continue to develop, and one cannot fault the overall effort and team spirit in the side.

Overall, a disappointing result, but there were enough positives to take into the forthcoming battles with Bees, Moseley, Launceston and Esher, and to ensure ND1 survival.
