AN out-of-sorts and mistake-prone Lions were no match for impressive Fylde and slipped to sixth in National Division Three North. Coach Mark Ellis said: "It was the same as last week. We made too many errors, the opposition didn't and they couldn't fail to profit from the help we gave them. "Hats off to the players who filled in out of position today, but our basic skills let us down

and our personal discipline was poor in the second half."

Injury-hit Rugby even had five front row players on the pitch for part of the second half.

Despite having a strong wind at their backs, Lions saw almost no possession in the first half. After Nick Royle's early try, a James Hawken penalty therefore gave the home side a surprisingly narrow 5-3 deficit at the break.

A second-half Hawken penalty even gave Lions the lead for 15 minutes, but then a clearance was collected by outstanding Fylde fly-half Stephen Nutt who kicked a drop goal with two tries following from Martin Wallwork and Royle.

Nutt added a penalty before some ill discipline among the forwards saw each side have a player sin-binned.

Late on, Nutt converted his own try before Ade Hales's score proved an inadequate consolation for Lions.
