COVENTRY prop Dai Maddocks joins the club's list of Barbarians when he plays against Bedford in the annual Mobbs Memorial Game at Goldington Road next Tuesday, March 18. Welshman Maddocks will be making his fourth appearance for the world-famous Baa-Baas, who bring together players from different clubs by invitation only with the emphasis on attacking, adventurous rugby.

"It's great to be asked to go back once again," saod loose head Maddocks who, by tradition, will wear his club's socks for the occasion with the hooped Barbarians jersey and black shorts.

"It's nice to be recognised and a great opportunity to play at that standard."

Commented coach Dave Addleton, who made three appearances for the Barbarians as a player: "It is a great honour for both Dai and the club for him to be selected.

"It is still one of the greatest clubs to play for; many rugby players never get the chance to wear the Barbarians shirt, so we wish Dai all the best and hope he enjoys the experience on the day."

The match kicks off at 7.30pm and is the oldest on the Barbarians fixture list.

It was inaugurated on February 10, 1921 in honour of Lt Col Edgar Mobbs, a former captain of the East Midlands, Barbarians and England who had fallen at Passchendale at the age of 35.

He had also been a committee member of the Barbarian Football Club and the Rugby Football Union.
