LIONS gave their fans a rousing send-off to the National Division Three North season after five successive defeats by coming back from 26-7 down on 52 minutes with five tries. Said coach Mark Ellis: "I established what I wanted from this game in terms of performance rather than result.

"We didn't show that in the first half and I and skipper Tristan Prosser-Shaw told them very bluntly at half time, so I'm pleased that in that last half-hour we showed how we have been trying to play all season."

Bradford & Bingley looked strong and quick, bursting through Lions' defence to score two tries for 12-0 by the 23rd minute.

A Tristan Wati score for Rugby was converted by James Hawken, but in added time Mark Kirkby's try seemed to settle the game at 19-7 for the visitors by the break and when the visitors scored again on 43 minutes, Lions were looking at a very big defeat.

But the introduction of scrum-half Justin Parker transformed the game and scores from Mike Rust, Ade Hales (2) and Parker took Lions ahead by the 70th minute.

Bees threatened a response to preserve the tension before Sam Overton added a sixth try to wrap up Rugby's inconsistent season in some style.
