Nuneaton 41 L'boro Students 30

FLY-HALF Rickie Aley sparkled with a 28-point haul as Nuneaton got their National Division Three North season up and running at the second attempt. Promoted Students proved a tough nut to crack and led three times in a game played on one of the pitches adjoining the stadium at Liberty Way, but Nuns took control in the final quarter and pulled away with 21 unanswered points.

The visitors struck first through a Grant Painter penalty after two minutes, and after two penalties in reply from Aley, Painter converted tries by Phil Burgess and Simon Lilley for a 17-6 lead.

Nuns were back on level terms by the break, prop Tom Pickard and Aley going over for tries which the latter converted as well as landing a drop goal against two further Painter penalties, only for Burgess to put Students back on top in the third quarter with his second converted try.

After that, however, it was all Nuns and tries from winger Aaron Takarangi and prop Brook Davies - his maiden score for the side securing a four-try bonus point - proved decisive with Aley tagging on a conversion and two further penalties.
