PROLIFIC kicker Rickie Aley collected a 21-point haul as Nuneaton knocked Macclesfield off the top of National Division Three North with their third successive win at Liberty Way. Nuns, who are now third in the table and just a point behind new leaders Caldy, raced into a 28-6 lead in an outstanding first half, dominating in the forwards, and extended their advantage with a converted try -

securing their bonus point - two minutes after the restart.

But they had to withstand a rousing finish by the visitors, who served up a five-try flurry and were only held at bay by Aley's third drop goal of the game on 66 minutes followed by his second penalty.

Winger Will Cave claimed the first home try on three minutes, Aley converting, and after an exchange of penalties, Nuns extended their lead on 12 minutes when scrum-half Huw Thomas gathered his own kick over the defence to touch down a second converted try.

Aley's first drop goal was followed by a second Ross Winney penalty for Macclesfield, before winger Aaron Takarangi raced away from 80 metres for a superb third Nuns try.

An Aley drop goal closed out a sparkling first half for Nuns, and he converted when text-book handling sent Cave in for his second try two minutes into the second period.

Winger Josh Fowles grabbed Macclesfield's first try after 55 minutes and he was followed over the line by Chris Jones, Jon Keep, Gary Hewitt and, in injury-time, Fergus Mulchrone, but Winney was only able to add two conversions as Aley's consistent boot made sure that Nuns banked five well-deserved points.
