Coventry sign Arthur Brenton from Plymouth Albion

COVENTRY have added experienced second row forward Arthur Brenton to their squad for next season’s inaugural rugby union Championship. The 28-year-old captained National Division One rivals Plymouth Albion last season and started all 31 of their league and cup games. Before that he spent six seasons at Bedford. Brenton, who has played more than 160 National One games and also made five appearances for Premiership club Northampton Saints, is moving back to the Midlands where his wife is resuming her job as a forensic psychologist after a year’s maternity leave.

“Arthur started every game in what was a winning Plymouth side before Christmas, which then had to deal with their own demons with wage cuts and staff reductions,” said Cov’s rugby director Phil Maynard.

“It must have been like pushing water up a hill, but through it all Arthur led by example and that’s what drew me to him.

“All the teams he has played in have been successful, and it’s another indication of our determination to bring leaders into the club.”

Brenton made his debut for Plymouth in their home game against Cov last August.

“He has done a great job as captain this season,” said Albion’s chairman of rugby Graham Dawe.

build on it with a cracking front row and back row and we will be in business.

Its a real shame we have to rebuild our forwards this year, our pack turned over pretty much everyone last year.
