BROADSTREET were unable to stop the Macclesfield juggernaut at the Ivor Preece Fields as the high-flying visitors waltzed away from Coventry with a 34-13 success. Despite a gallant display, the Street were unable to contend with Macclesfield’s power, organisation and experience, as they succumbed to their second home loss on the spin. Only seven minutes had gone when flanker Dan Baines broke from a rolling maul to break the deadlock, but fly-half Dan Richards retaliated swiftly with a penalty.

But the visitors scored again through Sam Moss, before Broadstreet prop Paul Hurst was sin-binned in first-half stoppage time.

And Macclesfield took full advantage of the extra man when Evan Stewart crashed over, and Ross Winnie converted to leave Street’s backs against the wall.

Winnie struck again five minutes after the interval to increase Broadstreet’s frustrations, and things began to boil over as Wayne Lester followed Hurst into the bin.

Richards kicked his second to narrowly reduce the arrears, before winger James Hunt crossed the line to allow Richards to convert.

But Macclesfield ensured victory when Ed Sayce scored and Winnie converted, before James Rooke was sent-off for punching to cap an awful afternoon for the Street.
