RUGBY LIONS put paid to Kendal’s impressive start to the National Two North campaign and in doing so, racked up their third win on the bounce with a fine 36-6 victory. After a first period in which they were forced to defend heroically thanks to having both a heavy gale and a wave of Kendal attacks against them, they came out second half with the elements in their favour, and ran amok to make the long journey worthwhile.

The hosts broke Lions’ stout resistance on the half-hour mark when Mark Ireland kicked a penalty to give Kendal a 3-0 lead in a fierce battle, before Lloyd Warner quickly tied the scores at 3-3 shortly after.

But Ireland once again sent a penalty sailing between the posts to ease Kendal back in front just before the break.

However, within the first minute of the second period, Lewis Barker rounded off a smart Lions move to cross the whitewash, while Warner’s second penalty added another three points moments later.

And following a period of heavy Kendal pressure, Warner kicked another penalty when Craig Wilson was sent to the sin-bin, before late tries from the threesome of Phil Reed, Jeff Gregson and Tom Harris capped off a wonderful Lions display.
