A DISTINCTLY below-par Broadstreet were hammered 63-0 by second-placed Loughborough Students in an unbelievably one-sided encounter at the Ivor Preece Fields. Broadstreet once again failed to get out of the blocks at home, and ended up being routed by National Two North’s in-form team. Half-back George Drake led the way for the Students with a personal haul of 28 points, while his compatriot Henry Pyrgos turned in a mesmerising man-of-the-match display against a subdued Broadstreet side who failed to trouble the scorers.

Drake kicked two penalties early on, before Dave Hughes went over after 20 minutes to give the visitors the initiative. Drake then converted his own try shortly afterwards, before adding further points with the boot before the break.

And the assault continued after the interval, where Pyrgos, Camilo Parilli and Kristian Cook (2) all crossed the whitewash to bolster their own chances of catching leaders Macclesfield.

“They played well and we played badly, it really is as simple as that,” stated an honest Lee Crofts.

“It’s difficult to know what to say or how to react to being beaten in that fashion, other than the fact that it’s not a nice feeling to be nilled. We never even looked like scoring, and it hurts like mad.”
