SCOTT Roberts has expressed his confidence cash-strapped Coventry can dodge relegation from the Championship. The dynamic prop, who returned to the club after a four-week absence due to a family illness, believes the Blue and Whites still have a squad good enough to keep them in level two.

While neighbours Birmingham & Solihull Bees lost almost an entire team when they hit the financial buffers, only three have left Butts Park and Roberts says those who remain are determined to save the club on the pitch.

Indeed, tighthead Roberts reckons had things worked out differently, Coventry would be fighting at the top end of the table instead of struggling at the bottom.

“If we had not received a 15-point deduction I think we could easily have made the top eight and the promotion play-offs,” the 24-year-old said.

“What has happened is a bit of a dampener but we have not lost that many players. We have still got a squad that is well capable of winning games.”

Roberts admits the need to do that is intensifying as Phil Maynard’s men have not won in the league since victory at Sharmans Cross Road on November 14.
