BACK ROW COMPETITION HOTS UP

Coventry Rugby are delighted to announce their 14th and 15th signings for the forthcoming season , both players being No 8 back row forwards . Seb Pearson - from Stourbridge Nick Southern - from Bournville Coventry's Director of Rugby Phil Maynard is pleased to have such competition for this pivotal role in the side, perhaps for the first time in years.

Seb Pearson joins from Coventry's ND1 local rivals Stourbridge. Seb is a Canadian hailing from Ontario and has played for Canada at U17, U19 and U20 level.  After an impressive first season at Stourbridge, Seb jumped at the chance to play for Coventry, with its professional facilities and training, and is looking to continue his improvement.

Nick Southern, who can also play at lock, joins from Bournville. Nick, aged 28, played for Gloucester Academy, and also captained England at U 21 level. He has had spells with Moseley and Otley, and after a period out the game, whilst building his career, has resumed playing for Bournville. In last season's pre season match between Coventry and Bournville, saw him give an impressive performance. Nick is excited to be playing for Coventry and is looking forward to resuming his position in the game.

Confirmation that my source was accurate about Pearson, although I'm rather surprised by the spin! IIRC, he was in the Tigers Academy before joining Stourbridge who played him at 8 & 6 but didn't offer him a new deal at the end of the season. I'm told he's a nice lad who even did a few stints working behind the bar. Not the biggest bloke so he'd benefit from playing behind a big pack; wouldn't everyone.....

I think you're are bang on, I was talking to one the local lads training with Cov and he has bulked up by 3KG and looks a lot more conditioned and fitter, simply by training with Cov for the last 6 weeks.

He's excited about being there and is hopeful of being signed, but if not would be an asset to Nuns or Lions etc; if he has to move on.

I'm sure any player coming in from the lower leagues will benefit in the same way.

The injection of raw talent is just what we needed and will turn up some hidden gems I'm sure.

Playing wise, I think this will be the most interesting season for years....whatever the outcome.(Sm15)

sounds like Pearson is a bit Carpenterish, if he comes on the way Aaron did we'll have another good Canuck in the forwards, bring it on SEB,,,,
The Whitefrairs is always looking for Cov rugby players to work behind the bar, something to do with Matt wanting free tickets !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Carps always played his socks off, even when shoulder barging and the odd high tackle... never forget that crack to his at Nottingham this yr.

I think he was well selected to represent his country.
